About This Quote

This quote is a play on Shakespeare's "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so," in which the speaker accepts that it is their own thoughts and opinions that make something good or bad. In this case, Michael and Lucifer are in denial about the danger of the pit. Michael and Lucifer in this quote are in direct opposition to each other. Michael is saying there is nothing to fear from the pit, while Lucifer is saying that their version of reality, which they have created, may be wrong.

In reality, they both have a point. There is no way to know for sure if their version of reality is right or wrong until they try to cross into the pit that they have been avoiding all along.
